After the Great Depression it became known as the "Tomato Capital of East Texas."

The Heritage Park Museum is the town's big draw. The Edgewood Historical Society started it in 1976 as a Bicentennial project. It covers three city blocks, with about 20 restored and furnished buildings showing rural East Texas life from the 1800s to the 1920s.

The second Saturday in November is the Edgewood Heritage Festival, held right in the park. It's the museum's main fundraiser. In 2026 that's November 14.
